چکیده

Background The differential diagnosis of hypertrophic phenotype remains challenging in clinical practice, in particular between hypertrophy cardiomyopathy (HCM) and increased left ventricular wall thickness (LVWT) due to systemic hypertension. Diffuse myocardial fibrosis is the characteristic feature in HCM, whereas hypertensive response is underpinned by addition of myofibrils in otherwise normal myocardial tissue. Late gadolinium enhancement (LGE) imaging provided important new way of differentiation between these two entities by separating those cases with evidence of regional fibrosis. Whereas approximately 60% of patients with HCM reveal visually discernable LGE, T1 mapping is highly discriminative, irrespective of the presence of LGE.

T1 mapping using a saturation recovery single-shot acquisition at 3 Tesla MRI in differentiation of normal myocardium from hypertrophic cardiomyopathy

Background Background Diffuse myocardial fibrosis is characteristic feature of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM). T1 mapping may enable non-invasive evaluation of diffuse myocardial fibrosis in HCM. There have been many studies that T1 mapping using a modified Look-Locker inversion recovery (MOLLI) sequence. However, there have been few studies using a SASHA for T1 mapping at 3 Tesla MRI. The p...

Myocardial T1 mapping as a diagnostic tool in pediatric patients with a concern for cardiac disease

Background Myocardial tissue characterization with both native T1 mapping and T1 mapping following gadolinium based contrast agents (T1 enhanced) has emerged as an important asset of CMR imaging [1]. However, there is only minimal experience in pediatrics [2]. Native T1 has shown to be a marker of myocardial edema, and may play a role in pathologic states such as myocarditis [3]. T1 enhanced ma...

Diffuse Myocardial Fibrosis detected by Multi-slice T1 Mapping using Slice Interleaved T1 (STONE) Sequence in Patients with Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy

Background The presence of myocardial fibrosis is associated with worse clinical outcome in hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) patients. Due to the substantial variations in left ventricular (LV) wall thickness and fibrosis in HCM, volumetric coverage of entire LV myocardium is essential for the accurate assessment of myocardial fibrosis. Slice-interleaved T1 (STONE) mapping sequence allows for ...

ShMOLLI and 5(4R) 3 MOLLI T1 mapping in HCM detect similar ECV despite a difference in absolute T1 measurements

Background T1 mapping and extracellular volume (ECV) measurements enable assessment of diffuse fibrosis in HCM and have been validated against histology. There still remains wide variation in pulse sequences used to measure T1 each with their associated limitations and biases in T1 determination. We sought to compare T1 values and ECV measurements between a 5(4R)3 variant of MOLLI and ShMOLLI i...
